Character Education

This year, the students and staff at Miller Elementary will spend time developing characteristics of leadership by sharing Coach Wooden's book, Inch and Miles, across grade levels as we learn about hard-work, friendship, loyalty, cooperation, enthusiasm, self-control, alertness, action, determination, fitness, skill, team spirit, poise, and confidence. Check out the book, Inch and Miles: The Journey to Success by Coach John Wooden.

Character Education: Harper for Kids Youth Character Development Program

LaRue Miller Elementary is proud to partner with Harper for Kids, a children’s nonprofit organization founded by Tim & Peanut Louie Harper. Harper for Kids mission is to to teach children important life skills that will empower them to achieve their personal best in life and to help schools incorporate Coach Wooden's Pyramid of Success into their character education.
Incorporating the Pyramid of Success into our character education program will help our students, staff, and parents focus on achieving our Personal Best!

Here's the Plan:

Week 1: Teachers will read book in its entirety to students.

Weeks 2 - 8: Student Council Leaders will introduce two words a week with a story, a quote, or visual during our weekly Miller Rallies.

Weeks 8 - 36:  We will focus on one word for 2 weeks each.  We will recognize learners who exhibit the Pyramid of Success characteristics during bi-monthly Miller Rallies.
